I’m Obsessed : A – Anju Modi
So i can’t believe that i didn’t know about this amazing designer before, I only just heard of her, and after just digging for a bit, i have realised that i might just have a new favourite designer (After Zuhair Murad of course).
So last Sunday, I accidentally came across a program called Mela on Sabc 2 and the beautiful presenter, who was a wearing a gorgeous sari (and whose name i didn’t catch.. oops!), was talking about a movie that’s coming out on the 18th of December, i think, called Bajirao Mastani.
Okay, so my point is, while talking about this movie that i am now dying to watch, she mentioned that the outfits were designed by Anju Modi. They played a small clip from the movie, of a song that’s in it and the outfits were absolutely beautiful!!
So, being the curious person that I am, i typed her name into google and the pictures that came up!!! Oh My God.. like i get that Indian clothing isn’t attractive to everybody, but anyone who is even remotely interested in fashion, can see the amount of work and detail on her garments. She blends unique colours that go unbelievably well together. It truly is beautiful.
Although her clothing has that authentic Indian look, she still manages to make it look contemporary enough for those of us who don’t live in India, if you can get your hands on one of her pieces, that is.
And her runway collections??? They have just enough drama for the catwalk but at the same time, they are wearable and gorgeous, and they don’t look goudy or over-the-top at all.
What i also admire about her clothing is the amount of work that goes into them, the embroidery, the beading, thread work, printing and every other technique she utilizes. You can actually see the quality of craftsmanship. It is insane!!
SO Anju Modi is an amazing costume designer and an absolutely EPIC couturier and fashion designer!! I am truly inspired and would definitely go and work with her if I had the chance.
Hope you liked it..
