Could Orange possibly Be the New Black
It probably isn’t the first time the term ‘Orange is the new Black’ has come forward, some may even say it was last season a few seasons ago. But what we see on the runway is not necessarily picked up immediately by the masses. It takes a few runway shows, a few celebrities wearing it and popular fashionistas posting about it on their Instagram, Tumblr., etc. for it to catch on.
Orange was really big on the runway in 2011 and 2012. Designers like Derek Lam, Mathew Williamson, Elie Tahari and Nanette Lepore focused their collections on this colour, then.
And then, Pantone named Tangerine Tango the colour of the year 2012.
We also saw a lot of Orange on the Red Carpet in 2012.
So this made Orange quite popular then. However, I personally hated orange at this stage and Black has always been ‘BAE’, but recently, all that has started to change.
I don’t really know what sparked my interest, or caused me to be attracted to orange. Perhaps the music video for Gerua is to blame.
Or, Maybe it is the gorgeous Johannesburg sunset.
I really don’t know, but whatever it is, I like it. I have actually incorporated quite a bit of Orange in my wardrobe. I am the kind of person, who if I don’t like a particular colour, I will not wear it, no matter what. Yellow is one such colour, that i haven’t worn in years (Since I took charge of my own wardrobe). Orange was also in that group, until a few weeks ago.
I have always thought of Orange as a Summer colour, because it is bright and bold, but now I do believe, there is really no harm whatsoever, wearing it during the cold winter months, to bring some warmth and brightness into ones outfit.
If Orange is a staple in your wardrobe, then you are definitely on the right track. As for me, black has and will always be my go-to colour, and then of course, other colours like Orange.
Let me know what you think of this post.

Mariam R xx
I love orange dresses, but unfortunately the color does not look good on me. I have cool undertones, yellow and orange shades look awful on my skin.

Have you tried a burnt orange? it should lift your tone.. I don’t like yellow, so I am not even going to encourage you to try a different shade. Lol.

Yes pllleeease, let Orange be the new black! I adore this tone. First of all it makes my skin POP! and also its a tone that is rarely worn, so I love it for that uniqueness! and I love accessorizing orange with gold statement jewellery! ( :
