Jeremy Scott and Moschino – an explosive love affair?

Moschino is known to be a brand that is on trend with pop culture, so much so that I find it difficult to associate their aesthetic with anything else. As the Creative director of Moschino, Jeremy Scott has been hitting us with his best interpretations of Franco Moschino’s Fashion gags, my personal favourite collection being the McDonald’s one!! (Foodie Alert!!)

The brands overly bright colours and tendency to use animations as the main source of inspiration makes their products oddly nostalgic. I find myself gravitating to products that remind me of my childhood, like the Barbie collection for instance – never have i seen anyone depict and bring to life my beloved Barbie dolls, like Jeremy Scott did at Moschino.

Jeremy seems to be one of the last fashion rebels left in the industry and I’d go as far as saying he is counted among the great activists in the fashion industry, such as Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood – designers who protested what was considered the norm and revolutionized fashion for the world!

Not only did Scott rebel within fashion with the use of pop art, he went as far as basing a whole collection on a historical event – The Bonfire of the Vanities – which took place in Venice, Italy in 1497. This was the burning of objects which were considered sinful.

Moschino’s Ready-to-wear collection F16 was based on this event where 15th Century Dominican monks led a mob through the city, burning art, books, clothing and furniture – beautiful things which they called sinful.

This collection covered a whole variety of aspects from the event, with clothes looking burnt and ragged, releasing smoke as the models walked – this was revolutionary! We have seen external smoke machines but garments releasing smoke without any visible aid? Unheard of!!

There were looks that displayed various parts of the destroyed items, with one model wearing a whole chandelier at her waist, another one had bits of wood attached to her dress to depict destroyed furniture. Check out the entire collection HERE.

And as always, when you love a brand, you tend to covet their iconic pieces. In my case, I’m absolutely obsessed with the Nappa Leather Biker Bags!! I can not get enough of them (visually – because I can’t actually afford one – lol).

Let me know in the comments below, who is your favourite designer and why?

Much Love,
